I don't see why anything done to the insides of the cabinet would affect the resale value???
And no, most treatments to the horn can't be reversed, unless you go have them sand blasted and repainted.
Why not just buy another pair of horns to experiment with? The come across ebay all the time.
I believe the 803B was nearly identical to the 416-8A. I'ts just older.

hi , enjoying the beauties about 4 hours per day and trying many amps and sources, while surfing on the web have found numerour tweeks,my questions are if i change from stock does it kill the value if i do need to sell them and besides bracing or new cabs,is the 803b equal to the 4 series,damping the horn, is they a way to reverse so i can get to stock,have tried tube crossover at 475hz 24 db ,but prefered the 500 crossover even though less dynamic, maybe different slope or c point, changing internal wiring, and does polarity to input of crossover matter as there are no + - markings,does replacing any parts in the crossover help
on another note as i am asking altec stuff, i have 816 cabs and want to use the fromt horn , but dont want to go the br route as will use a sub below, whats the best driver to utilize in the sealed box and what would be the necessary back compression chamber to get to about 80 hz
